The last fortress of China's aromatic hydrocarbon technology, the adsorption and separation of aromatics, has been overcome. As of November 3, the aromatics adsorption separation industrial demonstration plant under construction by Sinopec Yangzi Petrochemical Co., Ltd. has been operating smoothly for 26 days. This technology fills the domestic gap and breaks the monopoly of foreign companies on aromatics technology. Sinopec Corp. has thus become the third energy and chemical company in the world that possesses aromatics complete sets of technologies. It has a complete set of technical design, engineering construction, and high-efficiency adsorption. The production capacity of a full set of aromatics production equipment.
Aromatic hydrocarbons and ethylene are two major branches of petrochemicals, both of which are used as a measure of a country’s petrochemical industrial production capacity. While Sinopec successfully developed the ethylene series technology, it has also successively developed the production technologies of platinum reforming, disproportionation, isomerization, and xylene separation in the aromatics complete technology, and the adsorption and separation have become the last bastion of the aromatic hydrocarbon technology.
Faced with the reality that China, as the world's largest consumer of paraxylene, has no independent set of aromatics technology, Sinopec decided to assemble the advantages of resources within the system and organize the catalysts of the China Petrochemical Research Institute, Sinopec Engineering Corporation, Yangzi Petrochemical, and Sinopec. The company, together with the technology of adsorptive separation of the final fortresses of the aromatic hydrocarbon technology, finally formed the aromatic hydrocarbon complete technology with independent intellectual property rights. In October 2010, it established the aromatic hydrocarbon adsorption and separation technology development and industrial demonstration equipment at Yangzi Petrochemical.
During the implementation of the project, the Sinopec Ministry of Science and Technology organized a number of organizations to jointly complete the review of the process package, review and report on the feasibility study, and established a cold-mold experimental device, and obtained the first batch of experimental data; the experts of the Sinopec Chemical Industry Department were in-depth The site guides the design of key processes, processes and equipment, and carries out joint research to overcome the control problems of the adsorption process control system. Before the plant was started, the three major technologies in the development of aromatics adsorption and separation technology and industrial demonstration of Yangzi Petrochemical, namely, the adsorption of indoor components, adsorption process control system, and a new generation of high-efficiency adsorbent all passed the industrial demonstration progressive amplification process, and the adsorption performance had reached International advanced level.
It is understood that in the future, the demonstration unit will be able to produce diethylbenzene (PDEB) in time according to market conditions while conducting scientific research. Diethylbenzene is an indispensable interpreter for the production of p-xylene by adsorption separation technology. It has high economic added value. The development of adsorption and separation process to produce PDEB process technology can provide more economic benefits for the long-period operation of this demonstration unit. The operating mode also provides industrial application test conditions for the development of new xylene isomerization catalysts.
