Craig Venter, chief researcher of the research group, told reporters that they used the “four bottles of chemicals†to design chromosomes for their “artificial cells†and then implanted this genetic information into another modified bacterial cell. In this, the cells controlled by the synthetic genome have self-replication ability.
Wentel, who led the research team, revealed that after fifteen years of hard work, they developed the first synthetic cell.
The research team hopes that through this approach, "design bacteria that are specifically designed to produce biofuels or purify environmental harmful substances."
