Over the years, Scott and Julie Brusaw have been working on solar roads and they plan to use solar panels to create a road. Now they are ready to begin their first trial: a 3.6 x 11 meter car park in northern Idaho. With funding from the U.S. Federal Road Administration funded by $750,000, the device will be installed and will be a key step in verifying its feasibility. Scott Brusaw said: “We will invite the heads of companies to visit and they will see all the features, how the energy directly enters our electronic lab and how to power the building.”

This road is composed of three parts: a wear-resistant translucent top layer containing solar cells, LED lights (for road marking) and heating elements (for handling snow and ice); electronic layers for controlling lighting and communications; and dispersing energy to The ground floor of nearby residents and businesses (such as electric vehicle charging stations). Brusaw said that the solar panels on the ground may generate less energy than on the roof because the ground cannot be adjusted to the right angle to the sun. But he did not calculate how expensive the solar panel road was compared to the asphalt road. He just guessed that the cost might be three times higher.
