France will invest trillions of renewable energy

France has the world’s largest proportion of nuclear power generation. At present, 75% of France’s electricity supply comes from nuclear energy, and the nuclear industry provides hundreds of thousands of direct and indirect jobs. After Japan’s earthquake and nuclear accident, France reiterated many times that France’s energy policy remains unchanged and will continue to follow the nuclear power development path. With the arrival of President Hollande, French nuclear power policy has also changed.

During the French presidential campaign, the Socialist Party and the Green Party reached a compromise on energy development. Socialist candidate Hollande said publicly that the goal of the Socialist Party is to reduce the proportion of nuclear power generation from 75% to 50%. At the environmental conference in September this year, President Hollande once again promised that by 2025, France’s nuclear power generation will account for 50% of the total power generation in France. In 2016, the two nuclear reactors of the Fessner nuclear power plant will be shut down. In the future, the European pressurized water reactor (EPR), which was built in Flandersville, Normandy, will be the only reactor in France that will be put into production in the next five years.
