Plastic packaging market achieves steady growth

According to a summary statement issued by the IK Trade Association of the German plastic packaging industry, the trend of the German plastic packaging and film market remained stable during the period from the fourth quarter of 2013 to the first half of 2014, and its market prospects are expected to expire.

According to the latest data released by IK, in 2013 the output of the German plastic packaging industry increased by 2.4 percentage points year-on-year to 3.9 million tons, with a market value of 13.6 billion euros.

In the statement, the association pointed out that the reason why the consumer goods packaging market in Germany can achieve stable growth is because the domestic market demand for plastic packaging has been continuously strengthened in recent years. After three consecutive quarters of continuous downturn, the German plastic packaging market finally recovered fully in the fourth quarter of 2013 and began a strong rebound.

At the same time, IK stated that although the outlook for the German plastic packaging market will be promising in the next few years, the industry will also face strong competition pressure from other European countries. In addition, the country’s rising energy costs (especially electricity prices) will also restrict the rapid development of the German plastic packaging industry to some extent.

According to the official statistics of the German Federal Bureau of Statistics, total sales of the plastic packaging industry in the country from January to May 2014 rose by 4% over the same period of last year.

The IK Trade Association is a well-known German plastic packaging and film organization with more than 300 member companies. The company’s annual average total output of plastic packaging and films is 3.6 million tons.
