Monitoring System SLOC Technology Application Solution Analysis

Status and Problems of Video Surveillance System 1. Transition Period from Simulation to IP

With the improvement of the requirements for the clarity of surveillance systems and the continuous development of high-definition video surveillance technology, video surveillance systems have evolved from analog systems to IP systems. This is a trend and an inevitable result. However, from the current monitoring market conditions, the market share of analog cameras is still larger than that of IP cameras. The current monitoring system field is still dominated by analog video monitoring systems, and the transition from analog monitoring to network IP monitoring needs to go through a period of transition.

2. Problems to be solved during the transitional period
Regardless of the system components or system cabling, traditional analog surveillance systems and network surveillance systems are two completely different solutions for surveillance systems. Therefore, the transition between the two systems cannot be completed overnight. . There are still many problems to be solved in the transition from analog to IP. The popularity of IP cameras faces three major challenges in terms of transmission:

First of all, the existing analog monitoring system engineering generally uses coaxial cable wiring, and the network monitoring system is based on network transmission. If the old engineering transformation is carried out, the entire wiring needs to be completely replaced, and the cost and construction amount will be greatly increased, and the cost is relatively high; IP cameras are limited by the transmission distance (non-shielded super five is 100 meters), usually need to increase the relay equipment to increase the transmission distance; Finally, the monitoring project requires very high real-time preview, and ordinary wide-area network IP camera preview video The delay is generally between 1-4 seconds (mainly caused by video encoding buffer, video decoding buffer, and network transmission delay).

In addition, there are millions of coaxial cable-based monitoring projects in the world, and the investment is huge. Some cables are still far from the service life. If the original system is reformed, it will be very difficult to recreate the IP network monitoring system. Time-consuming and costly, it will also cause the waste of the original investment. So, is there a way to use these large numbers of coaxial cables for secondary use, thereby shortening the construction period of the project, reducing construction costs and staff costs?

SLOC technology to solve the problem of analog-to-simultaneous transmission SLOC technology

It is because of the effective solution to the above problems that in October 2010, the SLOC (securitylinkovercoax) coaxial cable composite video transmission solution was immediately put into focus in the industry.

SLOC is a solution that adopts advanced PHY modem technology and can transmit analog CVBS video, high-definition digital IP video signal and RS-485 control signal through a coaxial cable at the same time. That is SLOC=Analog Video+IP Stream+RS- 485 signal. The solution allows megapixel-class modern IP cameras to use the existing CCTV coax infrastructure without the use of new lines or cable modifications, thereby significantly reducing costs and saving resources, enabling the security surveillance industry to eliminate the traditional analog surveillance systems The switch to the digital IP security monitoring system becomes extremely simple and the monitoring distance can reach 300-500 meters. With the advent of SLOC technology, the seamless transition of video surveillance systems from analog CCTV to network IP monitoring brought good news.

The solution consists of a SLOC-based camera modem PHY chip TW3801 and a SLOC-based receiver modem PHY chip TW3811. The TW3801 and TW3811 are highly integrated modem PHY subsystems that include an analog front end (AFE), a digital modem, and two Ethernet media independent interfaces (MII). The TW3801 combines the CVBS signal it receives with the Ethernet MII signal one-on-one into a proprietary output signal transmitted over the coaxial cable, and the TW3811 equates it with the signal received by the SLOC-based camera modem PHYIC. decoding.

The introduction of the SLOC solution can effectively solve several major problems facing the IP surveillance system.

First, it supports the transmission of 720p/1080P high-definition IP streams over existing coaxial infrastructure without affecting existing CCTV services. Second, embedded analog CVBS video supports latency-free live viewing and digital IP camera control, supporting IP codes. The stream local transmission distance extends up to 500 meters, thereby greatly reducing the delay caused by increasing the relay equipment to increase the network transmission distance; finally, there is no need to re-wiring or modifying the cable, which significantly saves costs and resources, making the traditional The analog monitoring system smoothly transitions to the IP network monitoring system.

SLOC technology can not only solve the above-mentioned transition from analog to IP, but also realize the seamless transition from analog CCTV to network IP monitoring of video surveillance systems, and greatly shorten the construction period and construction costs, accelerate the realization of high-definition IP networks, and also due to its technology. The flexibility and ease of use can be integrated into existing analog monitoring systems in a variety of ways.

One way is to embed the SLOC chip into the network camera and the hybrid DVR. The SLOC chip can be easily embedded in the network camera and the hybrid DVR. The hardware of the product does not increase the difficulty. When the traditional analog surveillance system is upgraded to IP high-definition, the front-end analog camera and the back-end DVR need only to be replaced by network cameras and DVRs integrated with SLOC's two pairs of PHY chips without the need for line modification. Another way is to apply SLOC technology to external devices without changing the original product design. This approach can greatly shorten the development cycle, customers can be based on Intersil released after the launch of the network camera front-end module and DVR Based on the reference design of the receiver module, it has developed its own analog external output product that meets the company's requirements.

SLOC technology application program analysis

Based on the above SLOC technology application, we decided to apply the SLOC technology to external equipment and apply the coaxial network transmission equipment series.

This product can transmit network signals and CVBS signals in analog mode. It can transmit network signals and CVBS signals to the far end through the coaxial cable with low loss. And can directly power the IP camera, simplifying the actual installation of the project, while reducing costs.

The typical application scheme of coaxial network transmission products is shown in Figure 1. The sending module can be connected to the analog camera or the IP network camera at the same time. After the CVBS analog video signal and the IP network video signal are transmitted through the coaxial cable at the same time, they are connected to the back-end receiving module and can be re-divided after receiving the module. And IP video signals, analog signals directly to the DVR video storage or local preview, IP signals can access the network for NVR video storage or client preview.

Problems faced by SLOC technology

SLOC system needs supporting use of TW3801 and TW3811 chip to achieve hybrid transmission and reception, so the consistency standard issue will become an important issue that restricts the development of SLOC technology. At present, Intersil is working with SONY to promote the HVSA (HybridVideoSurveillanceAlliance) organization process. The first is to continue to promote the SLOC technology and the second is to solve the problem of consistency standards. For security monitoring companies, it is also necessary to actively participate in the discussion and formulation of such standard issues, to better promote the construction of conformance standards, and to accelerate the transition from analog surveillance systems to true IP network monitoring, and to realize the real time The networked monitoring management and network HD monitoring experience.
