Not only that, her “wearable solar†series is still very practical. One of the straight dresses is cut from wool and leather, cleverly embedded in 72 flexible solar cells. The other jacket is filled with a deep sense of future, hiding 46 rigid solar cells under the leather. Both clothes only need to shine in the sun for one hour, and they can charge half of the power for a fully depleted mobile phone.
Perhaps many people think that such a point of power is not worth using this obviously not cheap high-tech product. The designer himself also stated that the real challenge is not to enhance its practicality, but how to make people willing to wear them.
The design of wearable technology products has always faced a trade-off between practicality and aesthetics. Van Dongen’s team also stated that the prototypes of these two clothes are currently being introduced. If there is a new technological breakthrough or a lot of financial support, it is entirely possible for wearable solar clothing to achieve large-scale popularity. Van Dongen said that although there is still a long way to go, but by increasing research and development efforts, this suit will definitely be available for final listing.
