The coolness, durability, and compression set resistance of a foam mattress are related to the porosity of the flexible polyurethane foam. Bayer MaterialScience's new polyether polyol formulation produces high airflow polyurethane foam for "cooling".
Bayer staff Stanley Hager elaborated on this technique in a paper entitled "Ultra-air Flow Soft Foam Chemical Process." This paper was awarded the Best Thesis Presentation Award at the 2011 Polyurethane Annual Conference organized by the American Chemistry Council.
At the same time, James Chapman, manager of product safety at Bayer MaterialScience, received the best paper award from the Environment, Health, and Safety Conference. The winning paper “US EPA MDI, TDI Chemical Action Plan†was co-authored with Huntsman’s toxicologist Cynthia Graham. .
These awards reinforce Bayer's leadership in the polyurethane industry.
