Transgenic corn is only allowed for feed processing

According to the China Development and Reform Commission at the weekend, China will only allow the import of 11 genetically modified corns. Genetically modified corn is only allowed to be used for feed processing and is fully enclosed. At present, there are more than 20 varieties of transgenic maize in the world.

Government officials said that imported corn must not only undergo strict inspections and inspections by the agricultural and inspection and quarantine departments, but also be stored, transported, and fixed-point processed under the supervision of the inspection and quarantine departments. The processing of the remaining leftovers must be destroyed. Strictly prohibit the circulation of raw grains in the market.

Government officials pointed out that genetic modification itself is a hot topic, not only domestic concerns, the international community also has a lot of discussion. The main reason for the wide attention of China's imports this time is that China rarely imported corn in previous years. This year is the first major import after China's accession to the WTO.

As of September, China will import about 1 million tons of corn from the United States to ease the shortage of domestic supply.

The government stated that during the period from 2005 to 20092, China imported nearly 166 million tons of soybeans, most of which were GM varieties, but these imports were strictly monitored and did not affect the safety of soybean oil and other foods.

Government officials also said that imports could not affect the domestic market because the import quota was only 7.2 million tons, which is less than 5% of the total domestic corn consumption of 150 million tons.

Optical Analysis Machines

Optical Microscopy
In optical microscopy different filters are used to improve contrast and emphasize specific features based on material properties. This can be achieved with magnifications typically ranging from 2.5 times up to 1,000 times. In materialography, reflected light is the most commonly used type of light optical microscopy. Transmitted optical microscopy is also used, but mainly for mineralogy specimens.

Stereo Optical Microscopy
The stereo microscope is an optical microscope variant, designed for low magnification observation of a specimen, using the light reflected from the specimen surface.

Scanning Electron Microscopy
A scanning electron microscope (SEM) is a type of electron microscope that produces images of a specimen by scanning the specimen surface with a focused beam of electrons. The electrons interact with the atoms in the specimen, producing various signals that can be translated into information about the surface topography and the composition of the specimen.

Transmission Electron Microscopy
Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) uses a beam of electrons transmitted through an ultra-thin specimen and that interacts with the specimen as it passes through it. Generated signals can be translated into various types of information, including information on the type and orientation of individual crystals.
