Recently, some vegetable farmers have asked whether the eggplant should be watered before the planting. In order to facilitate the slow seedling, in the past years, the water was poured on the seedbed 2 to 3 days before the eggplant seedlings were planted. The water supply in the substrate was sufficient, and the root growth of the eggplant was strong. However, the root system was damaged during the transplanting, and it was easy to infect the disease. . The author believes that eggplant should not be watered for 5 days before planting, for three reasons:
First of all, because the eggplant seedlings grow well in the matrix, the root activity is strong, and the roots will grow in a large amount after watering, so that the roots can easily grow from the permeable hole at the bottom of the nutrition cup and down to the soil in the bottom of the cup. When the seedlings are transplanted, the roots are broken a lot, which affects the slow seedling of the eggplant. At the same time, the wounds are also likely to cause the invasion of soil-borne diseases, which causes the root disease of the eggplant to be aggravated. Second, it is not conducive to slow seedlings. Roots absorb water and nutrients mainly by root tip. Watering before planting results in a large amount of root growth, and the root tip is tender. When the root tip is injured, it will seriously affect the water-absorbing ability of the root system, and the seedling time will be prolonged after planting. Again, watering within 5 days before planting the eggplant increases the moisture content in the matrix, increases the weight of the nutrient cup, and increases the labor intensity of handling the eggplant seedlings.
Therefore, farmers are reminded not to water the eggplant bed 5 days before planting.
