Why is 31% of the domestic sensor industry stuck in a dead cycle?

Recently, Chen Liang, deputy general manager of MTS Micro Sensor Technology Co., Ltd., a leading manufacturer of accelerometer sensors in the United States (hereinafter referred to as “Meixin”), expressed his feelings to the “First Financial Daily” to prevent risks caused by changes in geology, climate, and water quality. Disasters are actually part of the perception of China in the Internet of Things. Prior to this, Meixin implemented a landslide monitoring project in Hong Kong, and deployed more than 100 sensory monitoring points in a hilltop water level, inclination sensor, and GPRS communication that are prone to landslides.

However, according to Chen Liang's ideal state, it is still difficult to achieve in the Mainland. The scale and application scope of the domestic sensor industry are still at the initial stage of industrial development. The Internet of Things projects that have been implemented are all demonstration projects such as bird monitoring in Qinghai Lake and water environment monitoring in Taihu Lake.

"To fully apply the Internet of Things to the fields of logistics, medical care, environment, industry and agriculture, the price of sensors and sensor chips can only be 1/10 or 1/100 now." Beijing Kunlun Coast Sensing Technology Center (hereinafter referred to as " Coast Sensing's chief engineer pointed out to the "First Financial Daily" in the Ming Dynasty that at present, the domestic sensor industry is actually stuck in a "dead circle" where the market application scale is too small and the sensor manufacturers lack the motivation to develop.

At present, Beijing’s key application research center for the Internet of Things was established. 11 companies and companies including Coast Sensing participated in the project and are preparing to make joint operations to compensate for the shortcomings of the domestic sensor industry. “The research center will adopt the corporatization operation, and 11 units will raise at least 50 million yuan of operating funds, and the rest of the funding gap will be applied for financial subsidies from the state and local governments.” The Ming Dynasty all said that if domestic sensing companies are not united, Under the current market size, it is difficult to make major breakthroughs in a short period of time. Perhaps the figures can better prove the argument of the Ming Dynasty.

According to the statistics of high-tech sensor statistics, in terms of revenue from the sensor business in 2009, China National Engineering Technology Co., Ltd. had a total investment of 140 million yuan, Da Li Technology Co., Ltd. was 173 million yuan, Goer acoustics was 120 million yuan, and Guanglu Digital Test Co., Ltd. was 110 million yuan. Electronics is 130 million yuan, and aerospace electronics is only tens of millions of yuan.

In 2009, revenue from RFID (electronic label) business was 240 million yuan in Yuanwang Valley, 400 million yuan in the New World, 200 million yuan in Tongfang Stock, 300 million in Xiamen Xinda, and 500 million in Shanghai Belling.

“There are about 30 listed companies in the IoT related business in China, and the number is relatively small compared to other industries, but each volume is not large.” Zhang Xiaofei, director of the China Sensing Industry Research Center pointed out that the key to the future of the Internet of Things lies in RFID and sensors. In the field of embedded software and data transmission calculations, domestic companies are not monopolized in any field. In terms of RFID technology, the United States is the only one with its patent applications exceeding the sum of regional patent applications filed by the European Union, the World Intellectual Property Organization, Japan, and mainland China. The number of patents accounts for 53% of the total; the total number of RFID companies in China About 100 or so, but the general lack of key core technologies.

"And Japan and Europe have absolute advantages in the sensor technology. The domestic high-end sensor market basically relies on imports." Zhang Xiaofei said. The Ming Dynasty also said that domestic energy companies and petrochemical companies are all large-scale sensors, but they are imported in batches. Because the level of sensor products of domestic enterprises, it is impossible to meet the requirements of these large customers.

"The current domestic sensor industry's trick is: large companies are reluctant to do, small businesses can not do it." The Ming Dynasty pointed out that because each area needs to be tailor-made sensors, although there is a market demand, but the market size is not large, leading to The technical input costs of sensor manufacturers are too high; on the contrary, sensor product technologies are based on new sensitive materials, nanotechnology, biotechnology, biomimetic technology, new energy storage technologies, and extremely low energy consumption technologies. Small businesses do not have such technologies at all. technical skills.

"Because there is no large-scale application, domestic sensor products generally have the contradiction of low technology level and high price," said the Ming Dynasty.

According to data from the Institute of Sensing Industry, the world sensor market capacity in 2008 was about US$45.6 billion. The world sensor market is expected to reach more than US$66 billion in 2010. The world is now about 40 countries engaged in the development and production of sensors, research and development, production units have more than 5,000, more than 20,000 products.

"Although there are 1,688 enterprises in the country engaged in the development, production and application of sensors, of which more than 50 are engaged in the development and production of MEMS, but the scale and application areas are small." Zhang Xiaofei pointed out that in the international market, Germany, Companies in old industrial countries such as Japan, the United States, and Russia dominated the sensor market. Many manufacturers have achieved large-scale production. Some companies have annual production capacities of tens of millions or even hundreds of millions. In contrast, the application range of Chinese sensors is narrow, and more applications still remain in basic application fields such as industrial measurement and control.

Chen Liang said that although the Internet of Things has been very hot in China in the past two years, the domestic sensor market has not experienced rapid growth. Most of the Internet of Things projects are still in the demonstration phase.

"Sensor technology is one of the basic technologies of the Internet of Things. Without the smart sensor, there is no way to talk about the Internet of Things." The Ming Dynasty pointed out that the key problem in the domestic sensor industry is how to quickly transform the research results into commodities. " It is estimated that it will take at least 5 to 10 years to change the current status of the domestic sensor industry."

Fortunately, according to the China Electronics Information Industry Development Institute's Institute of Microelectronics, the Chinese sensor market will reach 90.5 billion yuan this year. In the next five years, the average sales growth rate of the domestic sensor market will reach 31%.
