A and FA type polysulfide rubbers must be firstly added with a chemical peptizer to improve their plasticity. The vulcanizing agent added is a metal oxide, mainly zinc oxide. Plasticizers and softeners (see rubber auxiliaries) must also be added during molding. Since the ST type polysulfide rubber has been adjusted in viscosity at the time of synthesis, it is not necessary to add a plasticizer or a mastication, and it is usually vulcanized by a ruthenium group using an anthraquinone and an organic peroxide vulcanizing agent.
The curing agent of the liquid polysulfide rubber may be a metal oxide and an organic compound, and the most common one is lead peroxide. Uses Solid polysulfide rubber is mainly used in the manufacture of oil hoses, printing rubber rollers, sealing rings and gas meter diaphragms; liquid polysulfide rubber is used in aircraft fuel tanks, engine room seals and rocket propellants, which can be reduced by incorporating epoxy resin. Shrinkage during curing, increased impact strength, widely used in adhesives, electrical products and coatings; polysulfide rubber latex can be directly coated, used as a surface coating for concrete gasoline storage tanks.
