The hole is a term used in the mold design and processing industry, also known as insert perforation. It refers to the holes existing in the mold opening direction of the plastic parts. If the holes are not repaired during the parting, the mold design cannot completely divide the core and the cavity, which requires filling the holes (internal ring). This operation of filling the hole is called filling the hole. Whether the location selection and shape design of the hole is reasonable is not only directly related to the complexity of the mold design and the difficulty of processing, but also the quality of the mold, the working state of the mold, etc., so the design of the hole is the mold. An important step in the design is also an essential step. Many of the plastic parts encountered by the author's work, such as mobile phones, TV front and rear cases, VCD/DVD panels, keyboards and display housings, etc., have various holes on them, and this article is aimed at various types of injection mold design. Based on the hole-breaking problem, combined with the 3DQuickMold mold design module on the SolidWorks platform, a relatively complete solution was proposed, which provided a certain professional theoretical basis for accelerating the wide application of advanced software in the mold industry.
1 by several types of broken holes
The classification of broken holes can be divided into four cases. The first type of holes are broken holes in a complete curved surface (as shown in Figure 2-1); the second type of holes are broken holes intersecting two or more surfaces (such as Figure 2-2); the third type of hole refers to the hole that the front and rear molds are inserted (touched) (Figure 2-3); the fourth type of hole is the mixed hole, which is more complicated (Figure 2-4). The mixing hole in the intersection intersects multiple curved surfaces and has an R angle in the hole.

3 Ways to make up the hole
For the different types of holes, the following repair methods are summarized:
3.1 Surface thickening method
Porous is also patched with solids: In the solid patch dialog, define the selected face as the fill face and click Finish to fill the hole. The patching steps are shown in Figure 3-1. The result of the filling is shown in Figure 3-2. This method is suitable for the first type of holes.
3.2 Multi-faceted hole filling method
The multi-faceted hole method has the following excellent features, making it easy to fill holes that span multiple surfaces. The steps and results are shown below. This method is suitable for the second type of filling holes.
3.3 Quick replacement method
The purpose of filling the hole is achieved by quickly replacing the faces on some of the plastic parts. See Figure 3-5 and Figure 3-6 below.
3.4 Entity Block Method
This method is for some relatively complex holes. The basic idea is to first "block" a solid block and then perform proper trimming. The result is shown below.
4 Conclusion
The filling of the hole is an important part of the design of the plastic mold. For the different characteristics of the holes in the plastic parts, the above four different methods of repairing the holes are basically used to solve the problem of repairing the holes in the mold design.
