A group of chemists from the Chinese Academy of Sciences combined PBDB-T polymer and ITIC small molecules to refresh the new record for fullerene-free polymer solar photovoltaic cells.
Through the combination of technologies, the solar energy conversion efficiency reaches 11%, and the efficiency value exceeds most of the fullerene-containing solar cells, exceeding all the fullerene-free batteries.
Mr. Gao, a physicist at Linkoping University’s Department of Physics, Chemistry and Biology, said: “We have demonstrated that high efficiency can be achieved without the use of fullerenes, which are highly stable to heat because solar cells operate under continuous solar radiation. Therefore, good thermal stability is very important. Combining high efficiency and good thermal stability shows that polymer solar cells are now closer to commercialization."
