Nisshinbo Textile Co., Ltd. of Japan announced that they have developed a new type of film that can increase the “shelf life†of solar panels by about 50% in experiments, thereby prolonging the service life of solar panels.
This new material was developed by a subsidiary of Nisshinbo Textile Co., Ltd. that specializes in photovoltaic power generation materials and equipment. The researchers used a special rubber to develop a highly protective solar panel protective film. Solar panels using such protective films are less prone to degradation of product quality even in environments of high temperature and humidity.
In an experimental environment of 85 degrees Celsius and a humidity of 85%, the researchers conducted a 3800-hour high-voltage destructive test on the solar panel with the new protective film. The results showed that it did not suffer from degradation.
Nisshin Textile Co., Ltd. said that in the above environment, high-quality conventional solar panels can withstand 2,500 hours of destructive experimentation and are not degraded, and their actual lifetime can reach 20 years.
