The boy found that the degradation process of the plastic bag nemesis was reduced to 3 months

Because "white pollution" caused by plastic bags has long become a public hazard to the planet, it is called "the worst invention of humanity." However, Daniel Bird, a 16-year-old high school student in Canada, studied with great concentration and discovered that through a magical pseudo-cellular single bacteria, the natural degradation of plastic bags can be reduced from a thousand years to just three months! Bird is currently applying for a patent for this revolutionary technology, hoping that it will also earn enough university tuition for him to solve the ecological disaster.

Bacteria breaks down plastic bags quickly

Bird is an ordinary high school student in Waterloo, Ontario. His research philosophy comes from the experience of daily life: His mother often instructed him to help with housework, but whenever he opened the cabinet that stores the ware, the plastic bag on the top layer would scatter like an avalanche. So, annoyingly he started to study how to make plastic bags "disappear."

It is understood that the natural decomposition time of plastic bags is very long, usually ranging from 20 to 1000 years. But Bird believes that it will always be decomposed by microorganisms, so just find out the bacteria that can break down the plastic bag, polyethylene, and then concentrate the bacteria. Under the guidance of the teacher, he found that the use of Pseudomonas aeruginosa and fenpropathrin-degrading bacteria will greatly speed up the decomposition of plastic bags. Both of these bacteria belong to Pseudomonas, and Bird's research is the world's first demonstration that Pseudomonas can break down to make plastic bags - polyethylene.

Decomposition produces only water and carbon dioxide

During the experiment, Bird took soil samples from a local junkyard and mixed the soil samples with polyethylene and some solutions that promote bacterial growth. He concentrated the solution several times and cultured for 12 weeks and tested the effect of the culture solution on the decomposition of plastic bag fragments. As a result, he found that the two bacteria described above are the most effective in the decomposition of polyethylene.

Subsequently, Byrd separated the two bacteria and mixed sodium acetate, and then the temperature was adjusted to 37 degrees Celsius. He was pleasantly surprised to find that in this environment, bacteria can disintegrate 43% of plastic bag fragments within 6 weeks. At this rate, Byrd thinks that plastic bags can be completely decomposed in just 3 months. Bird also tested whether this method of disassembling plastic bags could be used on a large scale. As a result, it was found that as long as the temperature was properly controlled and the bacteria became active, they could decompose the plastic bags in large quantities, and the cost was very low. There will not be a lot of pollutants in the decomposition process. It will only produce water and a small amount of carbon dioxide.

Applying for a patent to earn college tuition

Byrd believes that his discovery will make a great leap forward in the treatment of plastic bags. As long as the plastic bags can be rapidly decomposed, they will not be afraid that a large number of plastic bags will be disposed of in the landfill to pollute the environment and reduce the size of the ocean. Rubbish. Byrd imagined that a large-scale plastic bag dismantling station could be set up in the future. The so-called decomposition station is actually a large container containing solutions and bacteria, and can quickly disintegrate the plastic bags that are put into it.

It is reported that Bird will continue to study ways to accelerate the decomposition of plastic bags, hoping to further shorten the time when plastic bags are completely decomposed. Although the current study is still at an experimental stage, Bird has had a longer-term idea: he is applying for a patent to this technology, the technology into the market.

Recently, Byrd, known as "Plastic Bag Nemesis", won the first place in the "Canada Science Fair" and received a $30,000 prize. At present, he has received scholarships from many universities.

Semi-encrypted Silica Fume

Microsilicon powder, also called silicon ash or cohesive silicon ash, is a large amount of very volatile SIO2 and SI gas produced in the mineral heat furnace when ferroalloys are smelted ferrosilicon and industrial silicon (silicon metal), and the gas is discharged and rapidly oxidised with air to condense and precipitate. It is a by-product of large industrial smelting, and the whole process needs to be recovered with dust removal equipment, and because of its low density, it also needs to be encrypted with encryption equipment.
